The Meaning of Thaharah in Islam

A. Thahrah

According to language, thaharah means holy or clean whereas according to Shari'a, thaharah is clean from hadats and unclean.



The sacred hadith means the holy condition after ablution, tayamum or obligatory bathing. For purity, it requires intention.



Holy unclean means that the holy state after cleansing the unclean body, clothes and place for purity does not need intention.


B. Air

  1. Various types of water

 holy water and can be used for purification is

a. well water

b. rain water

c. river water

d. sea water

e. snow water or ice water if it has melted

f. water from springs

g. water dew



2. water distribution

 in terms of the law, water can be divided into 4 parts, namely:

A. Water that is sacred and can be used for purification, this water is also called absolute water (pure water), for example well water, rain water, river water, and others in part.



B. Water that is sacred and can be used for purification, is still used makruh, which is sun-drenched water in a container made of rust-resistant material. This water is also called musyammas water.



C. water which is holy but cannot be used for purification namely:

-air musta'mal, which is less than two kulah water that has been used to purify from hadas or unclean.

(two kulah = the amount of water in a tub that is length, width and height, 60 cm)



- water that has changed is one of its properties because it mixes with other sacred objects, such as tea water, coffee water, and some of it.



- water coming out of trees and fruits such as palm water, coconut water and so on.





D. an unclean water, that is water which contains unclean and many less than two kulah, or even though there are many or two kalah or more but the situation has changed. This water is not pure and cannot be used for purification.



may be washed with water that changes if the change is caused too long to stop in its place, or mixed with mud, moss, something that cannot be avoided, both in its place and where it flows,



and something that works (can be separated from water, for example oil)

 besides the four parts of the water, there is still one more part that needs to be known, namely the water obtained by stealing or ghasab (seizing) or without permission from the owner. water obtained in this way, though sacred and can used for purification, it is forbidden to use
